When Belief Is Tested: Trusting God in the Crisis of Faith
What happens when God calls us to step forward and we find ourselves face to face with something far bigger than we are? That is the heart of what we explore in this message centered on Reality Number Five from the Experiencing God series: God's invitation to join Him always creates a crisis of belief. This is not a crisis in the sense of disaster, but a defining moment of decision. Do we truly believe what we say we believe? The message draws on the powerful account in Numbers 13 and 14, where twelve spies scout the promised land and return with the same facts but two completely different conclusions. Ten of them measured the giants against themselves. Two of them measured the giants against God. That single difference changed everything. We are challenged to ask ourselves the same question those spies faced: when life gets hard and the circumstances feel impossible, are we looking at how big our problems are, or are we looking at how big our God is? Faith, as described in Hebrews 11:1, is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not yet seen. That means faith only becomes real when we can no longer rely on what we can see, control, or figure out on our own. This message reminds us that our greatest obstacle to walking by faith is often not what we do not know, but what we think we already know. Experience and expertise are gifts, but they can quietly replace our dependence on God with confidence in ourselves. The invitation here is to bring our giants, our fears, and our unanswered questions to the God who parted the Red Sea and raised Jesus from the dead, and to simply trust Him.
