Returning to Your First Love: The God Who Pursues

Oct 4, 2026  •  Randy Blan

What if the most important thing God wants from us is not our service, our attendance, or even our obedience, but simply our hearts? This message cuts straight to the core of what it means to truly walk with God, reminding us that Christianity was never meant to be a religious checklist. At the heart of the message is a profound and humbling truth: God is the one doing the pursuing. From the Garden of Eden, where God called out to a hiding Adam, to the life of Jesus, who came specifically to seek and save the lost, Scripture paints a consistent picture of a God who relentlessly moves toward His people. We did not find God. He found us. That reality alone should change everything about how we relate to Him. The message draws on Jesus's words in Matthew 22, where He identifies the greatest commandment not as working harder or knowing more theology, but as loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind. When that love grows cold, even our most impressive religious activity becomes hollow. The warning Jesus gave to the church at Ephesus is just as relevant to us today: it is possible to be doctrinally sound, faithfully serving, and spiritually busy, while having quietly abandoned our first love. This is an invitation to examine where we truly are and to let that honest assessment draw us back, not into more activity, but into deeper intimacy with the God who never stopped pursuing us.
